Intermediate shaft bearing failure is a well-known risk on certain M96 and M97 flat-six engines in the 996, early 997 and Boxster/Cayman. The specialist checks for documentation of a retrofit.

Cylinder bore scoring is commonly reported on some 997-era flat-sixes and certain Cayenne V8s. Symptoms like ticking, smoke or oil consumption are investigated.
